Koenigsegg from 0 to 100 in 10 Years

2002 – After eight painstaking years of constant development, the small striving Koenigsegg team delivered the first production cars to anticipating customers.

10 years later, in September 2012, the first carbon prepreg pieces were cut on the routing machine for Koenigesgg’s 100th production car. The car was duly named “Hundra” (Swedish for 100) – a unique one-off Agera S being built for an excited car collector.

Fast forward to March 2013 – The Hundra is finished in time for the 2013 Geneva Auto Salon. A beautiful clear carbon right hand drive Agera S with celebratory, artisan hand laid and swirled, 24 carat gold leaf inlays, creating an intriguing mix of traditional and hi-tech craftsmanship.

A lot has happened in the past 10 years. Koenigsegg has evolved from being a small and unknown car developer, to becoming a household name, revered for excellence and performance – competing head to head with the strongest brands in the industry.

What a fantastic 10 years it has been:

Most importantly, the Koenigsegg family has grown from a handful of dedicated craftsmen and engineers, to over 50 full-time employees and more than hundred proud caretakers of precious Koenigsegg cars.

All these individuals share the same passion and goal – to carry the Koenigsegg brand, experience and philosophy steadfast into the future.

- Given the success, has Koenigsegg become relaxed and rests on its laurels?

New Koenigsegg book and prints

To commemorate this historic occasion, a book has been created.

Through the remembrances and voices of drivers, owners and key persons that helped Christian create the cars they love, the story of Koenigsegg is being told, in words and pictures. The limited edition coffee table book, features 300 pages of exiting and beautiful material, never shown before.

Although the B6 Venator is billed as a concept car for now, former Saab owner Spyker has said the model will make it into production in early 2014. It will be sold in key global markets, including Europe, for an estimated £100,000.

The B6 Venator is a mid-rear-engined sports car with two doors and two seats. Power comes from a V6 engine with more than 375bhp, with power sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed auto ’box.

The monocoque chassis is made from aluminium and the bodywork is fashioned entirely from carbonfibre. The car weighs less than 1400kg; a PDK-equipped 911 Carrera S with 394bhp weighs 1415kg.

The B6 Venator is 4347mm long and 1882mm wide, with a 2500mm wheelbase. That’s 144mm shorter but 74mm wider than a 911, while the Spyker’s wheelbase is 50mm longer than the Porsche’s.

The distinctive look of the B6 is full of references to Spyker’s early-20th century past as a maker of coachbuilt road and race cars, particularly in terms of the large mesh front grille. There are also nods to Spyker’s past as an aircraft manufacturer: the glass canopy of the cabin and design of the dashboard are both said to have been inspired by aircraft.

Company CEO Victor Muller, who will use the car to spearhead a renaissance for the low-volume maker, has designed the B6 Venator.

The bad image of a black Koenigsegg that popped up almost a month ago has now been followed up in the form of more and better pictures. The car we’re looking at here today is a converted Acting documented as named One: 1, suggesting that it is a single building. Who ordered it we do not know, any more than it to be a wealthy Chinese who through the dealer FFF in Shanghai have placed the order. However, we take into account that Koenigsegg themselves have not left any information on the car.

Howler Trimmed five liter V8

There are a lot of details that separates One: 1 from ordinary Acting and Acting R. At the front sits a huge splinters of carbon fiber on the roof and an air coop in the same material. At the rear, the diffuser built on considerably and the normally rectangular tailpipes sticking out in the middle has been replaced by two round doningar. In addition, the wing very own history of model gigantic and with completely different points of attachment that goes into the ceiling. On one of the pictures, the front, we also see carbon fiber details painted in a checkerboard pattern. Under the hood is normally five liter, V8 twin-turbo but One: 1, the effect would have ratcheted up to monstrous 1400 horsepower. That’s 260 more than in Acting R

Volvo Car Corporation is now ramping up production of the new Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid. After the initial batch of 1,000 model year 2013 cars, production will increase to 4,000-6,000 cars as of model year 2014.

The assembly of the world’s first diesel plug-in hybrid has been successfully integrated on the same line as the company’s other models at the Torslanda plant in Gothenburg.

This is a remarkable achievement considering that the sophisticated plug-in hybrid technology includes two complete drive trains and a powerful battery that provides a range of up to 50 kilometres on pure electric power.

“We are first in the industry to integrate a plug-in hybrid in an established production flow together with other car models,” says Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development at Volvo Car Corporation. “The integration in the standard production flow gives the plug-in hybrid buyer the possibility to choose in principle all options available for the standard V60.”

Over 300 more parts

All the additional equipment and additional systems in the plug-in hybrid have led to parts of the final assembly line being rebuilt and modified. The adaption makes it possible to smoothly integrate the assembly of over 300 more parts that are included in the plug-in hybrid compared to an equivalent V60.

A couple of examples of the integrated production flow:
•The electric motor along with its drive shafts is fitted on the same station as the final drive on the standard four-wheel drive models.
•The cooling system and the high voltage cables are assembled on the Pallet, which is used to assemble the car’s drive train and chassis parts.
•The battery pack is lifted in through the car’s tailgate short side forward. It is then spun a quarter of a turn in the passenger compartment – a manoeuvre that takes 60 seconds and carried out with less than 20 millimetres to spare.

“The 11.2 kWh lithium-type battery is the single most complex system in the car. The precision manoeuvre to get it in place is an excellent example of the state-of-the-art assembly process,” says Peter Mertens.

Increasing demand

The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid is the synthesis of close cooperation between Volvo Car Corporation and Swedish electricity supplier Vattenfall. The two companies have financed the development project jointly.

“The V60 Plug-in Hybrid is a unique car, a historic step, not only for Volvo Car Corporation but for the entire car industry. The first year’s 1,000-car batch was sold out even before the car reached the showrooms and the order books for next year’s cars are already filling up,” concludes Peter Mertens.

It is likely, it is a development of the magical four-liter boxer six that will propel the GT3 RSR, but horsepower is regulated depending on which classes the car to run in.

Although the 991 GT3 RSR recalls its predecessor with its wheel arches and the large wing so the aerodynamics of the new large air ducts in the front and small wings behind the rear wheels to improve airflow.
